FPTA Summer Camp Adds New Themes

While FUN is the first thing on the FPTA Summer Camp agenda (after safety of course) and academics are not our activities list, we know that fun and learning all work together.  This summer, we are making a conscious effort to expose the campers to certain themes and integrate learning in the context of activities, projects, arts and sports – all at an age appropriate level. Although, we have a weekly focus, elements of the themes will run throughout the summer program.

This year’s themes include Good Citizenship, Leadership, Sustainability, Good Sportsmanship, Ingenuity, Multiculturalism, Entertainment and the Olympics.

Please note that themes for each week may change as needed to accommodate special activities/field trips. If you are signing up your child for a particular week because of the theme, please check to make sure there have been no changes to the schedule.

Tennis Balls Help Create A Quieter Orchard Gardens Classroom

The back to school season means pens, pencils, backpacks and even tennis balls as teachers ready their classrooms for a robust student body at Orchard Gardens School in Roxbury. A simple request for used tennis balls came from Colin Turner, one of their teachers, in hopes to make one of the classrooms more conducive to learning. FPTA was glad to help knowing that a few of our players lived in Orchard Park for part of their childhood.

Thank you so much FPTA for donating over 200 tennis balls to our 8th grade classroom! We now have a quieter, safer space to learn in, and the fact that the community donated them makes it all the more special! – Colin Turner

So, before you throw away those used tennis balls, consider donating them to a local school or a nursing home! If you have a bunch of balls, but no time to figure out where to donate them, call us at 617-427-8900 and make arrangements to drop them off to us and we will distribute.

Not everyone can win their match, but it turned out to be a great tournament weekend. The weather, the people, the food and the competition were all fantastic. Thank you to the event committee and the board for coordinating the event and to everyone else who pitched in.

As we did last year, we will present the trophies on October 4th at the FPTA Annual Awards Gala (more info below).

Congratulations to all of the players and the winners!
